April Vacation Week Youth Programs Dates: Tuesday, April 22 – Friday, April 25, 2025 Location: Fairbank Community Center Join us for a fun-filled April Vacation Week featuring exciting daily field trips, hands-on STEM challenges, creative building activities, and a middle school basketball day for grades K-8! Spots are limited; advance registration is required. Challenge Island (Grades K-2) - $229R / $234NR 4-Day Program: Tuesday, April 22 – Friday, April 25 Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Registration: Full 4-day registration required (no individual day sign-ups) Description: A high-energy, hands-on STEM adventure! Kids will work in teams to complete fun and engaging engineering challenges inspired by real-world scenarios. Activities encourage creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, making learning exciting and interactive. Lunch Break: Participants will have a supervised lunch break. Bring your own nut-free lunch. Lego Club (Grades 2-6) - $50R / $55NR Daily Dates: Tuesday, April 22 – Thursday, April 24 Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Registration: Sign up for individual days. Description: A creative-building program where young designers explore engineering concepts through fun and engaging Lego challenges. Each day includes structured building activities and open-ended creative play. Lunch Break: Participants will have a supervised lunch break. Bring your own nut-free lunch. Field Trips (Grades 5-8)  Tuesday, April 22: Urban Air Adventure Park - 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Indoor trampolines, climbing walls, and obstacle courses. A full day of active fun! Pizza & Drinks is provided for lunch today. Wednesday, April 23: Fun World Nashua - 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Arcades, rides, laser tag, and more! A perfect mix of fun and adventure. Please pack a lunch for today. Thursday, April 24: Fenway Park - Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners Time: 11am meet at FCC. Approx. return time 6pm (will update on way home)  Enjoy an unforgettable experience at Fenway Park, including a Red Sox game and the chance to run the bases! Middle School Basketball Tournament Day (Grades 6-8) - $20R / $25NR Friday, April 25 Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM Description: A fun, competitive, and casual basketball session exclusively for middle schoolers! Players can join pick-up games, form teams on-site, and get plenty of court time. Location: Outdoor courts (weather permitting). In case of bad weather, games will be moved indoors. Registration: Drop-in or pre-register. Important Details Limited spots are available—pre-registration is required. Parent drop-off/sign-in and pick-up are required daily for on-site programs. Pickleball Clinics Information Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors or outdoors on a 44-foot by 20-foot court. Created for all ages and skill levels, pickleball's rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. The Sudbury Recreation Department offers clinics at the Fairbanks Community Center, 40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury. Clinics Beginner Clinic Beginner Clinic – Participants will learn the fundamentals of pickleball. Focus on the court set up, grip, ground strokes and serves as well as on dinks, rules, basic strategy, and game play. Pickleball equipment, etiquette, and safety will also be covered. Paddles are available for use, so you do not need to purchase your own. Improver Clinic Improver Clinic – This clinic is for players who have already taken a clinic or have been playing and understand the basic rules and fundamental pickleball skills. The focus will be on continued skill development as well as strategies for playing winning pickleball. The clinic will include a mix of drills and game play. Up the River/Down the River Playing Clinic Up the River/Down the River Playing Clinic – A playing clinic which provides a competitive game format. Players take part in games with different opponents and receive coaching and skill development – all in a fun atmosphere. At the end of each 12-minute game, the winning team on each court moves up and the other team moves down. Participants must have either taken a beginner/advanced beginner lesson and/or have pickleball playing experience and know the basic rules/scoring. Specialty Clinic: Dinks Specialty Clinic: Dinks – This clinic will focus on shots at the non-volley zone (kitchen). Dinking technique and strategy will be taught and practiced through a series of drills, and the clinic will conclude with full games. Specialty Clinic: Third Shots – Drops and Dives Specialty Clinic: Third Shots – Drops and Dives – This clinic will focus on one of the most important shots – the third shot. Technique for both drives and drops will be taught and practiced through a series of drills and games. By signing up for park and recreation programs early, you help prevent cancellations by demonstrating sufficient interest and ensuring that programs reach their minimum participant requirements.
